CDSG Meeting Minutes : January 30th, 2006

UEC Report

CDSG is calling for changes to the CD curriculum. The first major change is to the colloquium. There are too many students in the 301, 302, 303 series as well as 428. We are pushing the department to make these courses for majors, minors, and special permission only. These are core corses for the major, and several majors have not been able to get in due to classes being full. The second major thing we are working on is to get the place some kind of standards on admission to the major. This may be in the form of a GPA requirement in addition to the currently used letter of intent.

Movie night

We could have 3 showings starting on 21th of April. The 1st movie we will be showing is the Milagro Beanfield War. There are no 35 mm versions available of this movie, but a DVD copy will be used. The cost is $250.00

SFC hearing

All group members could make it on Monday and Tuesday, but finally Mon 10:30 am seemed to be the best choice. Now Brad needs to make an appointment and also call Kenya.

Ryan's update on communication/digest

Wiki is up for CD website, group members will be able to post data, and make changes to the website. There still are some vagueness about the wiki business, which will be cleared for the members by Ryan in the next week’s meeting, by a demo. For digest as well we could post our articles/writing to wiki. There’s also going to be an alumni database on our site. Roudi,and Brad are going to give their pictures of school to Ryan for our web page.

Mini Event

Potluck’s our plan for attracting more students to our weekly meetings. Next week’s going to be our first potluck. We’re going to announce it in different classes and by making flyers. Each week we will rotate through different formats for the meeting. 1st week: Potluck. 2nd Week, Speaker. 3rd Week, Social. 4th Week, ?
